INTRODUCTION
Heidi Thompson
In June 2002, I completed the University of Victoria Post Degree Secondary Teaching Program earning my B.C. College of Teachers Certificate. I will be a teacher-on-call for School District #22 in September, 2002. My long-term goal is to teach both in the public schools and, as well, set up programs outside of regular school.

As a result of my academic accomplishments at the University of Victoria, receiving my B.F.A. through B.C. Open University, my formal training in Photography and Fine Art in Europe, my twenty years experience working as an artist and my desire to help children, I am confident that I can fulfill the demands and responsibilities of an art educator. My greatest satisfaction in teaching is derived from inspiring students and watching them grow in enthusiasm, technical skill and self-confidence.

My teaching goal is to help students develop their artistic knowledge and abilities and learn how to use this knowledge to express themselves both artistically and professionally. I encourage each student to explore his or her artistic calling, while providing a solid platform of fundamental skills.

I encourage students to take on challenges and strive for excellence. I believe that every student can, if willing, develop emotionally, intellecutually, and spiritually through art. My job is to awaken this willingness and teach the skills.

I am dedicated to providing students with a safe, supportive environment and being a healthy role model, both in and outside of school. While working in a school I respect and welcome the support and input from my fellow teachers and outside of school, I encourage the input of parents.

I firmly believe that education is essential for an individual's happiness and success. As well, education is the backbone of a prosperous and democratic community. To be a teacher is to serve both the individual and the community. It has taken many years for me to feel that I am qualified to take on this important role. I would be very happy to become a team player in a school or with parents, working together to fulfill the noble task--to educate our children.
