EDUCATION
Europe & Canada

Zurich Trainstation, 1975

EUROPE    After graduating from Vernon Senior Secondary School in 1974, I left for Switzerland to study german for one year. After this, I decided to pursue a career in art and photography.

In 1975, I was accepted into the Vorkurs (Foundation Course) at the
Kunstgewerbeschule der Stadt Zurich. For one year I was taught a basic art foundation which included printmaking, drawing, sculpture, history, theory, and painting. After taking an examination, I was a chosen applicant for the Kunstgewerbeschule's three year professional photography program. Each year, only five students were accepted.

In 1979 I graduated with a Diploma for Photography. I then proceeded to Nurnberg where I apprecticed for one year with painter, Oskar Koller. During this year of learning how to mat and frame, exhibit, ship, print, and other art-business related jobs, I was instructed by Mr. Koller in drawing. With his recommendation, I decided to apply to the The Academy of Art in Nurnberg.

During my stay in Nurnberg, I became friends with painter, Klaus Schmidt, who was a former student of Oskar Kokoshka. In my free time, I studied art under Schmidt's instruction, and believe that he was one of my strongest influences.

From 1980-1981, I attended the Akademie der Bildenden Kunste Nurnberg. During this year I studied painting and drawing under the guidance of Professor Ernst Weil. We concentrated on anatomical drawing, painting, history, printmaking and art theory. As I was seeking to continue this more traditional art training, I left to Budapest where I was accepted into theKepzumuvezetifoiiskola Budapest first year of their five-year master's program. After completing one year I decided to return back home to Vernon.

VERNON   I set up a photography art studio in a downtown location, and worked professionally for 15 years. During this time, I taught art and photography both at college evening classes, the Arts Center and at the Kelowna and Vernon art galleries. I had numerous painting and photography exhibitions.

In 1994 I set up a publishing company, Coldstream Books. One of the publications which received the VanCity Award, was RECAPITULATION- A Journey by Sveva Caetani. Since 1996, I have been working on writing and developing a feature film based on this book.

In 2000, I decided to pursue teaching. I received my Bachlor of Fine Arts Degree through B.C. Open University and was accepted for the Post Degree Professional Program for Secondary School Teachers through the University of Victoria and earned my B.C.C.T certificate.
