ArtQuest offers a continuous art program that challenges students of all ages and abilities and builds on knowledge and skills. The teaching fosters artistic, as well as, personal development. Students receive individual attention, while benefiting from working in groups. Taught by a B.C. certified art teacher, students have the option to design an individual program that fulfills grade 11 & 12 Fine Art and Photography requirements set out by the B.C. Ministry of Education.
To qualify, students may discuss their program with their highschool and insure that the required hours of instruction can be met. ArtQuest serves students primarily in Vernon but if there is interest, will run in Kelowna and Armstrong. Special programs can also be set up for home educators or private schools.
ArtQuest's curriculum is partially modelled after traditional European art schools. Students begin with acquiring drawing skills and a general understanding of art approaches, techniques and history. While acquiring foundation skills, students are introduced to new and creative approaches and themes as well. Focus is always on encouraging the students to create meaningful work.
Art can foster growth on many levels. Students not only acquire technical skills in drawing, painting, photography, but develop their perception, concentration and understanding about themselves and the world around. Sharing one's work with others either through local exhibitions, the website gallery, and group critiques promotes self-confidence.
ArtQuest provides students with a solid art foundation giving them the competitive advantage when choosing a future profession. Today, creative and skilled artists are sought after in may areas including multi-media, computer graphics, animation, architecture, fashion design, photography, publishing, illustration and advertising. People who have developed ability to perceive, create, imagine and materialize ideas will be the leaders and initiators within any kind of enterprise or business. A person who has developed these skills at an early age will be better equipped to face the challenges of the adult world.
